Trevilia Hodge is an award-winning filmmaker, author, poet, playwright, and storyteller whose creative pursuits encapsulate her talent and commitment to uplifting others. Born in New Jersey and based in Dallas, Texas, Trevilia’s artistic work has influenced and inspired her community for years. Affectionately known as the Baldhead Baddi, she embodies the beauty of self-love and acceptance and has turned her struggle with alopecia, a tragic miscarriage, and domestic abuse into an opportunity to channel pain into purpose.
She began her professional career journey as a property manager at Pennrose Management Company before ascending the corporate ladder as a fleet specialist at DuraServ Corp while volunteering with several charitable organizations within the corporate sector.
In the early aughts, she played an instrumental role in helping the Central Jersey Slam Team claim numerous victories, including several wins at the world-renowned Nuyorican Poets Cafe. Her performances reached a crescendo when she captivated thousands at the 2010 Poetry Nationals. Her poetry was also showcased at the New Brunswick Public Library.
In January 2020, Trevilia debuted, "The Otherside," a deeply personal exploration of self-acceptance and spirituality through the eyes of a young African American woman struggling with her weight and self-image. The play premiered to a sold-out audience and was set for a tour that was curtailed by the global pandemic. Rather than becoming discouraged, Trevilia wrote and produced "Pandemic," a short film that earned international acclaim, winning the 2020 MLC Awards OA Award for outstanding artistic contribution, and placing as a finalist at the London Director Awards and Prague International Film Awards.
Trevilia's artistic journey continued abroad in 2022 when she landed supporting roles in two independent Spanish films, "The Day the World Turns" and "The Path to Judah.” Each premiered in Almeria, Spain, and garnered numerous international awards.
Her prowess in storytelling and film led her to serve as the executive producer and director of the documentary "Make Room for Me: Unapologetically Fat in America," slated for completion in late 2025.
Trevilia’s latest project, a children's book titled "The Baby Elephant with the Blue Balloon," is set for release on May 1, 2024, via Amazon. She wrote the book 20 years after suffering from a tragic miscarriage to help families cope with the loss of a child.
Outside of her career highlights and artistic talent, Trevilia is an active member of her community and holds the titles of “Ms. Fort Worth Plus America 2017,” “Ms. Alamo State Plus America 2017,” and “Miss Congeniality at Texas Plus America Pageant.” She also earned the Pageant Director Award 2017 for outstanding leadership and direction. Furthermore, she helped organize the 2017 and 2018 American Heart Association Heart Walk, leading community engagement and coordination. She also volunteers with the Margarita Ball Organization, raising funds and collecting toys for underprivileged children distributed through Toys for Tots.
Trevilia Hodge is more than an artist; she is a visionary whose work transcends traditional boundaries and mediums. She embodies the philosophy that a life of love begins with self and that daily experiences of love can profoundly change lives. Through her multifaceted career and personal philosophy, Trevilia continues to show the world how to replace loss with love, embodying the change she wishes to see—a world where healing and love prevail.
Trevilia graduated with honors from Mercer County Community College and Rutgers University.
